In the town I live in we are 45 minutes from the nearest large health food store like Whole Foods, Fresh Market or Earth Fare. All are great sources for Gluten Free products. However, 45 minutes is a long haul after a full day of work. I try to plan my visits to these stores well so I only have to make the trip every 2 weeks. I set out with my shopping list and big insulated totes.
A few weeks ago I discovered Earth Harvest, a local health food store only 20 minutes from my house. The store is tucked away in a shopping center in between a large gym and bowling alley. I have driven by this place hundreds of times but never paid attention to it. They have a whole section dedicated for Gluten Free products! They carry many brand name products like Udi’s bread, Bob’s Red Mill mixes and Van’s Gluten Free Waffles.
The staff was very helpful and knowledgable about their product lines. They also told me they would order cases for me if there was a specific product I needed! Finding this local store was a huge advantage for me because I can pick up a couple items while I’m running around town. This is a big change from the 45 minutes commute one way to the larger stores.
So here is my advice – open your eyes as you drive around town. You never know what Gluten Free gem is hiding in a shopping center!
