Recently I have felt the need to increase my daily protein intake – 30 plus weeks pregnant with twins is the main motivation. So after looking around I found some other moms suggesting protein shakes. As a Celiac there is so much that could go into these shakes that would make them not safe.
After looking at the Kellogg’s website I still wasn’t sure their Protein Shakes were safe, so I emailed them. A couple days later here is their response!
Pam,
Thank you for contacting us to request information about our products that do not contain gluten.
Yes, our Special K20TM Protein Water Mixes and Shakes would be considered as gluten free. They do not have any gluten containing ingredients in them at all.
Kellogg is aware that many consumers need special dietary foods, especially those with celiac disease. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not offer any bars, cookies or crackers formulated to be gluten free.
In addition, we are continuing to explore the possibility of offering other products that are formulated to be gluten free. You may also wish to try some of the other products listed below:
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Gluten Free Cereal
Kellogg’s Fruit Flavored snacks
Eggo Syrup
To determine if a product will fit into your specific dietary preferences, please visit www.kelloggs.com. Please let us know if we can assist you further by calling.
I’m always amazed when a big company takes time to actually response to customer emails and tweets.
I know they market their shakes to be weight loss aides, but they can be useful for getting good protein and fiber.
With the confidence that they were safe I went out today and bought some Strawberry flavored protein shakes. And I have to say it was pretty tasty! It did fill me up for longer that 20 minutes (my current hunger rate) and had a bunch of good stuff in it for me and the twins. I can see continuing to drink them once the babies arrive to keep my calories, protein, and fiber up while nursing.
So in case you where wondering: YES Kellogg’s Special K Protein Shakes are Gluten Free!

Wow Pam! This is great! My daughter would be able to use the waters, but I’m sure the shakes have some type of dairy in them. But what an advancement for Kelloggs! Great post. Thanks for sharing š

Hey! Thanks so much for looking into the Kellogg’s shakes! I need protein and I love the idea of having a chocolate shake in the morning. I just found out I have Celiac and I am so nervous I won’t get all the nutrients I need. This really helps! Thanks again.

Thank you for posting — I gave up these shakes a few years ago when I went gluten free because of the barley malt. Glad to know they removed it š

This is not a gluten-free product. This is not a real Kellogg’s site. Please check kelloggs.com for proof. I am a celiac and had a bad reaction from these Special K Protein Shakes. Their phone number is 1-800-962-1413 and ask for supervisor, who know about this ad. Rebecca 11/24/13

I have been drinking your Special K protein drinks for about 5 years this week I just noticed when I purchased it that it is gluten free and I have no problem with that but it taste very different it’s kinda gritty and sandy tasting so I’m wondering if you recently changed something and if this is how I can expect it to taste? Thankyou Missey

Missey,
I just reviewed the Special K drinks, I’m not affiliated with the company at all. Try emailing them. They replied to me š
