Daisy Cakes Gluten Free Cupcakes

Daisy Cakes in Durham rocked my world today with some amazing Gluten Free cupcakes!  Here is how it went down.  It was 9 am and I had just dropped the toddler off at playschool.  The twins and I were headed to Duke for a doctor appointment.  I did a quick google search on my phone for Daisy Cakes and placed a call.

DC:”Daisy Cakes.  How can I help you?”
Me: “What Gluten Free options do you have today?”
DC:”Well, for you – I will make some!  Let me make sure I have the batter.”
Me: at this point my heart stops!
DC:”I have the white cake batter!  How many do you want?”
Me: Heart starts beating again- “THREE!  You are awesome!” (I think I may have been yelling at this point)

DC:”Give me an hour”
Me:”THANK YOU!”

So the twins and I roll in around 50 minutes later.  One of the ladies asked what she could get me.  I told her I had called about some Gluten Free cupcakes.  Turns out this wonderful woman is Tanya (the owner) and she is the one who I talked to on the phone.  She had just finished my cupcakes!

Tanya – my cupcake angel

I ordered fresh orange juice to go with my tasty treats.  After paying, Tanya took pity on my as I tried to hold both babies, my coveted cupcakes and my juice so she offered to help carry my goodies to the car for me.  Such service!

The result from this grand aventure was three white cake cupcakes with raspberry icing and white chocolate pieces on top.  I ate one in the car and was blown away.  It tasted like a cupcake!  No strange texture or flavor – just cupcake!  I have eaten two already today.  The third one won’t make it past lunch tomorrow!

Daisy Cakes is more than a bakery they are also a cafe serving brunch, sandwiches, coffee, and tasty looking Gluten filled treats.   If they do not have any Gluten Free cupcakes available you can eat their French Macarons.

They also have a fun story.  They first started out in an airstream trailer named “Sugar” and sold their cupcakes during the Saturday Durham Farmer’s Market.   Before I was Gluten Free I frequented Sugar!  Once their following got big enough they opened a store.

So if you are in Durham stop by and see what they have available!  You may get lucky and score some Gluten Free cupcakes!
