Working Out

I have had a love hate relationship with running and working out for most of my life.  There are seasons where I love it and seasons where I’m not gonna do it (read using a toddler whining voice while stomping your foot).  After the twins I dropped a ton of weight due to massive milk production, but once I closed down the dairy some of the weight came back.

I enjoy running 5K’s and have run two since having the twins.  But now that it is cold I needed to do something else, so I swallowed big and we joined the Y.  I’ve been there three mornings a week for the last three weeks.  And when I say morning I mean 5:30am!

Let me say I’m by no means saying I’m awesome and you should do what I do.  I’m not saying what I do will work for everyone and I’m not saying that in six months this will still work for me.  I just want to share what I’m doing now that gets my rear out of bed and to the gym.

My Tips

First – Have your bag packed.  This way when the alarm goes off there is nothing that has to be done.  No excuses.

Second – Have a filling Gluten Free breakfast ready.  I have made Bacon Cheeseburger Puffs, Birds’ Nest Breakfasts and Sausage balls as my go to breakfasts.  They are easy to eat while I’m driving to the gym and can heat up easily when I get to work.

Third – Find a time that works for you.  As a mom my only “me” time happens when the kids are sleeping so that means before 7am or after 8pm.

Fourth – Make it fun.  Create a fun music mix to listen to while you work out.  Get fun running gear.  Use this app to track your work outs.  If you go you get paid if you don’t you have to pay!  Go with a friend.  Take a class.  Sign up for a race so you have to train for it.

What other tips or tricks do you use to get to the gym? Please share!
