Saxapahaw, NC is a small old mill town close to Chapel Hill and Burlington. It has some adorable apartments, a great farmers market, a five star restaurant in a service station, a charter school and The Eddy Pub and Restaurant. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with an indoor and outdoor sitting area.
The bar has a ton of local beers and GLUTEN FREE CIDAR on tap! They do have bottled Gluten Free beer and a great wine list. They serve dinner Tuesday to Sunday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The menu is created from locally available produce and meat. The menu clearly marks Gluten Free items!
I was lucky enough to run away for a girls night with three other moms! It was the perfect location for the event. We ate, drank and laughed until it closed. I ordered the pimento cheese fries, meatloaf and the chocolate peanut butter tart. I made sure to let the staff know I was a Celiac and needed a Gluten Free meal. The GF meatloaf was such a confusing of a concept to me I actually had our waitress ask the chef what they put in it. She came back saying it had pork sausage, ground beef, eggs, seasoning and ricotta cheese.
The meal was awesome! The pimento cheese fries were rockin’ good.
The ricotta meatloaf was grilled to add a nice crust to it. The taste was amazing and it didn’t fall apart. The sides of potatoes and broccoli were yummy. I took half of it home and ate it for lunch the next day.
The chocolate tart was like a reeses peanut butter cup in the form of a cake!
The food was super good and I’d go back just for more pimento cheese fries! So if you are ever in the central part of NC and want a fun meal run over to The Eddy!
Oh and when you say Saxapahaw most of the letters are silent!
Enjoy!
