Yes, everyone loves the turkey and ham during the holidays but it is the side dishes that make the meal. Whether it is a casserole, salad, or biscuit those are the dishes that people will ask about and get seconds of.
As a Gluten Free eater the side dishes are usually a land mine for gluten. Depending on how educated your family is you may even get “The sweet potato part doesn’t have gluten, its just in the topping. You can scrape it off.” I smile and say no thanks. In my head I’m saying “How about I put rat poison on your food and tell you to scrape it off!” But I behave and don’t say that out loud.
For family holidays I bring as many side dishes that I can make. That way the Gluten Free twins and I will have plenty of food options. I also bring some safe desserts, but that is another topic for another day.
