Looking for an easy and fast Gluten Free dinner? Here is a sure winner! It can be easily customized to your families likes and to what is available in your pantry. I typically make it with can corn but have added frozen veggies like carrots and green beans before. The flavor of this shepherd’s pie is more sweet than savory. We love this meal on cold nights and find that it is very filling. Another one dish meal success! The kids even love to eat this one. If there is any left it will heat up well the next day.
What You Need:
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1/4 chopped onion
– 2 tbsp ketchup
– 1 can drained corn
– 1 can drained green beans
– 1 egg
– 2 cups cooked mashed potatoes – I used Potato Buds
– 1 tbsp brown sugar
– 1 cup cheese
– 1 tbsp GF worcestershire
How To Make It:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Brown beef with onions, drain fat. Prepare potatoes per the package. In a small bowl mix together egg, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and ketchup. When beef is cooked through add the can of drained corn (or other veggies). Once the potatoes are ready stir wet ingredients into beef mixture. You don’t want them to sit in the skillet very long because you don’t want the eggs to start to scramble. Pour meat/ veggie mixture into casserole dish, top with potatoes, and cover with cheese. Bake for 25 minutes.

worcestershire sauce is NOT gluten free!!

There has been many studies that show that “caramel coloring” which is the only ingredient in the sauce that would not be gluten free, doesnt actually contain gluten. I have had celiac disease for 3 years and have NEVER had a problem with worcestershire sauce. There is no ingredient in it that contains gluten unless you are still assuming caramel coloring to contain gluten, but then you have to stay away from candies and soda, and millions of other things as well.

Thank you for your comment. Like any sauce you have to make sure you read the label and check the manufacturer.
Lea & Perrins Original Worcestershire Sauce IS Gluten Free. From their website, “Lea & Perrins® Worcestershire Sauce is cholesterol free, fat free, preservative free, gluten free and has 80% less sodium than soy sauce.”

I’m going to try this recipe, it seems very good. I do wish that you would have stated in the recipe that you used a gluten free worcestershire. Some people who are new to gluten free eating may not know that the sauce has gluten in it. I’m not sure if I can get that sauce in my grocery store, do you have any other suggestion that might be good also?

She did state in her recipe that she used gluten free worcestershire sauce. it says in the ingredients. 1 Tbsp GF worcestershire. GF means gluten free. It is definitely stated.

Cassandra,
I hope you enjoyed it! This has become a staple in our house.
Per your advice I did update the post to state to use GF Worcestershire sauce. If you can’t find Lea & Perrins, French’s Worcestershire sauce is also Gluten Free. They state the carmel color is not derived from wheat.
Hope you can find one of them!

It was delicious! I now regularly make this for dinner. I didn’t look for any Gf worcestershire sauce but it was still good without it. Thanks for the great recipe.
