Now that the twins are 10 months old and eating solid food eating out is easier and becoming more frequent. This leads to fun filled dinners at restaurants where piles of food ends up on the floor. This also leads to me getting Glutened! Darn you Gluten!!
In the past four weeks we have eaten out at least once a week and I have gotten Glutened twice! I’m not going to rag on these restaurants and scare you from ever going to them. When in fact I might go to them again in the future, but I will be very careful with what I order.
The first incident was at a chain steakhouse that has a Gluten Free menu. They offer appetizers, salad, main dishes and even GF desserts! I had a salad, steak with mashed potatoes and a flourless brownie. By the time we hit the car I new something was wrong.
The second incident happened yesterday at another chain restaurant with a Gluten Free menu. I ordered mini cheeseburgers – no bun and mashed potatoes. Both items were listed as GF. By the time we got home the Gluten was hitting me.
So why tell you these stories? Gluten Happens! And so does eating at restaurants. If I were to stay home and make all my meals I would be safe, but that isn’t realist. I have three young kids, a job and life happens outside the home. Sometimes Gluten finds me and I feel like a dog’s butt. Then I feel better and keep on going.
My point is you can’t live in fear of Gluten. You just have to do the best you can, ask questions, educate those around you and read labels. When in doubt don’t eat it and always have snacks in your purse to get you through till you can find something safe to eat.
