For all those busy moms out there, I wanted to give an updated review for Home Chef. You can find my original review here.
Whether you work, juggle kids, homeschool, or are a dog mom the question “What’s for dinner?” comes everyday. I have spent over a decade meal planning for our family since I had to eat Gluten Free due to my celiac disease diagnosis. Now that our kids are in sports and clubs our evenings are busier then ever!
I have been using Home Chef as a way to help me save time and have a plan for dinner.
HOME CHEF REVIEW
What comes in each box:
- Recipe cards for each recipe
- The meat in a separate plastic bag
- A labeled bag for each meal kit
- A number of ice packs to keep everything cold
Our Recipes:
- Chicken Breast with Cilantro Butter
- Herbes de Provence Chicken
- Steak and Mushroom Risotto
All of these meals were a big hit and I even used one when we had guests over for dinner.
Chicken Breast with Cilantro Butter
I added chicken to this recipe since we had guests over. So I basically doubled the chicken and added a can of corn and followed the rest of the instructions. The chicken was good but the corn was amazing! Everyone loved it. Since the kit comes with recipe cards I can make it again easily!
Herbes de Provence Chicken
This was a Monday night dinner but I also wanted it to last for lunch the next day so I added more chicken. The kit came with 2 chicken breasts and I added 2 more and split them. I also added some green beans. The sauce on this was the big hit for sure.
Steak and Mushroom Risotto
Here is what everything looked like prepped to cook. This risotto was perfect for a cool fall night! I didn’t make any changes to this kit and it was excellent.
Pros:
When you make your profile you can list any food restrictions and they will only recommend meals without those food items. The recipes have all been good and I really love the sauces that go with the meals. The recipes are easy and most meals can be ready within 30 minutes.
Cons:
You do have to do the cutting, slicing, peeling so account for 15-20 minutes for that to make each meal. The serving sizes are spot on, so make sure you order enough for the amount of people you need to feed. It is a subscription service so you do need to login and skip any weeks that you do not want a shipment. You can skip up to 6 weeks at a time.
Price: Meals start at $8.99 a serving which is still cheaper than eating out at most restaurants
Tips:
- Read the entire recipe before you start cooking, sometimes they want you to start 2 things at once
- Add additional meat and veggies to have more for later
- The website keeps track of all the meals you have been sent and you can get the recipes in the “My Cookbook” section
