Are you ready for Easter? How about eating over at your aunt/uncle/mom/in-laws house? Is your family supportive? Are you able to find safe food or do you just skip eating all together. Sadly, holidays are very hard for someone living a Gluten Free lifestyle. It is inevitable that someone will use the same spoon for a gluten-filled dish in a Gluten Free dish. Or give you the old “there is only flour in the top, you can just scrap it off.”
Here are a few tips and tricks to survive Easter as a Gluten Free eater
- Bring as many Gluten Free dishes that you can and clearly label them as Gluten Free.
- Go through the buffet line first. Fill you plate with all the safe options and then don’t make a second trip so you can avoid cross contamination because Uncle Bob used a spoon in a GF and a non-GF dish.
- Make sure you bring a Gluten Free dessert. It is super hard to walk by all the beautiful easter desserts and know you won’t be able to eat any. So bring your own so you don’t have to miss out.
- Place your Gluten Free dishes away from the regular food.
- Pre-eat if you are not able to take safe dishes and you do not get support from family. It is easier to stay sane when surrounded by gluten when you have a full belly.
