Need help with meal planning? Let Home Chef help!
Life has been crazy lately and my meal planning has dropped off. There is a big difference in working 40 hours a week and 60 plus hours a week. So, I have been looking for some extra help to save time and effort. After reviewing the multitude of meal home delivery options, I decided to try Home Chef first.
We have used Home Chef for 2 weeks and here are all the details.
WEEK ONE
Steak Moutarde
Pork Chop with Garlic-Butter Mushrooms
Acapulco Fajita Beef Skillet
WEEK TWO
White Wine Chicken Scaloppine
Honey Mustard Pork Tenderloin
Mesquite Chicken with Loaded Potato Wedges
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
Plastic Binder to hold the recipe cards (in your first order)
Recipes cards for what you are cooking that week
Tons of ice packs and insulation to keep the ingredients fresh
A bag containing the meat
A bag for each meal, containing the veggies and sauces you need
PROS
Very economical compared to other plans. $6-10 per person per meal depending on coupons and discounts.
There is a big variety in recipes.
The recipes are simple and help get you out of a recipe rut.
High quality ingredients and very good cuts of meat.
Everything but oil, salt, and pepper is in the meal bag, even small tabs of butter if required for a recipe.
CONS
Veggies do not come cleaned, peeled, chopped, or sliced so it takes a little longer to prep the veggies.
The serving size is only for the number of people you order, don’t count on leftovers the next day for lunch.
They set you up on a weekly schedule and if you want to skip a week you have to login and select that option, otherwise the box ships.
OVERALL
Hubby and I really enjoyed these meals and they were crazy easy to make. Seriously, 30 minutes or less and we were rolling. Hubby whipped up a few on my long days and nailed it.
The profile lets you select the types of foods you like and what you want to avoid. I was able to make sure all the recipes we receive are 100% Gluten Free. I also selected them to be low-carb and no fish.
Home Chef will auto select meals based on your profile and you have until Friday (for a Wednesday delivery) to change the recipes. There was a week where there were not 3 Gluten Free meals available so I just skipped that week.
The website gives the usual “shared facility” disclaimer regarding allergens. However, it does state that they pack each meal individually so the risk is very minimal. If all the meals you order are Gluten Free, there should be no reason for a gluten containing ingredient to get in.
The recipe cards are great. One side shows what the end plate will look like and the other has step-by-step instructions with pictures. I did find it helpful to read all the steps before starting, as I was able to combine steps and multi-task.
Our third box will be here on Wednesday and I’m excited to see how those recipes come out.
