So I have to admit that I have been making fun of all my friends (in my head mind you) who are doing all these whole 30, 12 week whatever, and 21 day fix programs. Sure I see all their pictures on Facebook and Instagram and see their workouts and menus but it didn’t seem like something I could/would do. It is time to eat my words. Hubby and I are starting a 12 week challenge on April 4th that will end July 3rd.
Hubby’s goal is to get lean and stronger. My goal is to drop a few pounds and train for my triathlon in May and race season. After looking around for different programs we are going to try Labrada’s Lean Body Challenge.
The summary is that you eat 5 small meals a day that include 2 protein shakes and work out daily for 30 minutes. The meals are heavy in protein, vegetables, good fats and limited starch. There are a ton of similar plans out there and they seem to have a heavy focus on the quality of your food and the intentional timing of when you eat. By spreading the meals out you allow your body to burn the fuel and give you energy for the workouts.
I’m going to be using Vega protein for my shakes. I love that all their products are Gluten Free, plant based, kid safe, and they have a line targeted for athletes. Learn more about all the Vega goodness here. Vega is also doing a really fun campaign called #BestLifeProject. It is all about eating, moving, adventures, and how to live YOUR Best life, not anyone else’s. Follow the hashtag to see different peoples Best Life!
You all know I do a weekly menu so I already have a head start on the menu planning piece of the challenge. I will need to plan for and pack us both lunch and snacks daily. This particular challenge has limited cheese, salt, and alcohol. These I admit will still be a part of my diet. My life requires all 3!
On the workout end this challenge is heavy on strength training and lighter on cardio. Hubby will follow the exercise program spelled out in the challenge but I will be heavy on cardio to train for the tri and light on strength training. Working out daily will be hard since I work 40+ hours a week, have 3 kids, blog, and want to get some sleep. I will do the best I can with the time I have. I use a Garmin Viviofit 2, so at the basic level my goal is to meet my step goal daily.
I am telling you guys this so you can help keep me focused and accountable. If any of you have good recipes or exercise tips please pass them on.
So, here we go friends. Day one!
